Occasional Activities

Our occasional Club-wide social events throughout the year for members, their partners and
guests include:

Pot-luck lunches and dinners

Usually held in April, May, and October (at lunch time, 13.00-16.00).  In July and August (evening dinner, 19.00-22.30).

Our PLL events take place in the garden of a member, where the club’s folding tables and chairs are set out.  Participants bring their own cutlery, crockery, napkins and glasses, and take them home, unwashed, to save work for the host. Everyone is asked to bring a generous dish of home-made food, for 8 for couples, for 4 for single attendees. If you bring guests, you must scale up your dish  to accommodate the number of your guests. You will be allocated a type of dish to bring (aperitif, main dish, side dish or dessert), and it should be presented for serving with appropriate serving  implements.

The Club provides good quality wine (red, white, rosé), a preliminary cocktail, bread, water and sundries (table decoration, signage, lighting, music, paper towels, rubbish bags, etc) and for this there’ s a charge of 10€ pp.

Main dishes are served to guests, to ensure there’s enough food to go round, and for a reasonable choice of dishes - even for the last tables to be served (numbers can be a high as 60 people).  Second helping are available once everyone has been served. Club wine is put away at the official end time, and only if the hosts are willing, guests may stay on and consume their own refreshments after this time. Often there is dancing at the evening events.

These events are extremely popular and usually become fully booked within days of being announced. Waiting lists are kept, and given priority for the next event.

Summer Party

Usually held in June in the evening.

This is the most formal event of the club calendar, being a sit-down three-  or four-course meal at a local restaurant followed by music and dancing, all outdoors if weather permits. There’s a seating plan and payment (currently 50-60€pp) is made in advance. Usually around 50-60 people attend this highly popular event.

Welcome Back Party

Usually held during the evening, mid-September.

This evening event celebrates the start of the Club’s year of activities after the summer, and the return of the members who spend the summer in other parts of  the world to escape the summer heat. It’s our biggest event, attracting around 100 people.

It is held in the garden of a member. The club provides all the drinks (free of charge), music, lighting, tables and casual seating. Members are asked to bring a  a generous plate full of finger food (preferably home-made) to share. It’s not a sit-down meal, most people stand and circulate, catching up on everyone's news.

There’s no charge for attending.

Christmas Apéro

Normally held  on a December evening, two- to three weeks before Christmas to maximise attendance in advance of members taking off to spend Christmas elsewhere.

This is held in a local venue with a kitchen, in the early evening. High quality, hot and cold apéro snacks made by a caterer are served throughout the evening in sufficient quantities to constitute a light meal.

Members purchase their own drinks from a dedicated bar. It’s a stand-up gathering although some casual seating is provided. The club provides seasonal decorations and music. The charge is around 12€pp to cover catering costs.
